Getting into 'Deconstruction of a Drag Queen'!

Thanks to our amazing supportive audience, outstanding playwrights and performers- last weekend's 'Love Roulette' fundraiser was a HUGE success.  We went above and beyond our ticket sale expectations, and now we are in great shape to make 'Deconstruction of a Drag Queen' (Running April 6th-21st at the 10th Ave Theater) as flashy and fierce as our heart desires.  Thank you a million times over.

Now we can move on and kick off some behind-the-scenes info on our process for this upcoming production! We want to share with you some of the fun that has been leading up to our first rehearsal happening this Monday!

First, introducing the AMAZING cast of the show:

Pictured from left to right: Julio Jacobo, James P. Darvas, Shaun Tuazon, Melissa Coleman-Reed, Kevane La'Marr Coleman, and Justin Warren Martin will all be performing in 'Deconstruction of a Drag Queen'!  We are very fortunate to have all of them!  This picture was taken by Rich Soublet at a very informal reading of a first-draft version of the script last Tuesday.  We invited company, crew, and members of the community to hear and give feedback that will help us prepare to go into rehearsals with a more developed piece.

We are also proud to unveil the publicity artwork that you will surely be seeing around town very soon advertising for 'DoDQ'!  All images are by the AMAZING Michael Mahaffey:

Michael is amazing!  The face used in these images belongs to the main source of inspiration for the piece- the sensational Grace Towers!

Stay tuned for much more information on the production (it's running April 6th-21st at the 10th Ave Theater- tickets will be on sale this weekend)!  Also- if you aren't connected with us on facebook, 'like' our fanpage today to stay updated on all the fantastic fun that is around the corner with CCdd!  Find us HERE!  Enjoy your weekend friends.

'Love Roulette' FAQ's!

Hello Friends!

Tickets are going fast for 'Love Roulette' but there are still some left!  Get yours today- seating is limited and we will have to turn people away at the door if we reach our capacity- even though we really don't want to!

So what should you expect from the night?  We've compliled some FAQ's on the night to make your life super easy- because we love you.  So here we go!

1.) Where the heck is 'Dance Place San Diego'?

2650 Truxtun Rd, San Diego CA 92106.  But here's a map!

Our event will be taking place in studio 207.  This beautiful spacious studio was provided to us by the fantastic San Diego Ballet.  When you enter the building you'll need to head upstairs.  Studio 207 is the last large studio on the far right.  There will be plenty of CCdd Company members present and signs to guide you- so worry not!  We've got you!  There will also be ample parking surrounding the building- as you will see when you show up, so no worries there!

2.) What is the performance going to be like?

This is a show that starts at 8pm.  Unlike Morp or some of our other fundraisers- this will be a normal performance with one 15 minute intermission.  So be timely San Diego!

As mentioned previously, we asked 8 local playwrights: Sam Ginn, Evan Kendig, Melissa Coleman-Reed, Erin Maxwell, Stephen Schmitz, Delia Knight, Soroya Rowley, and Jason Perkins to pick a love/relationship-related topic to create a short piece about.  The things they have come up with are fantastic.  Seriously.  This group of writers created a body of work that ranges from heart-wrenchingly touching to gut-busting hilarity.

These playwrights picked their own actors to perform staged-readings of these pieces and the actors coming out for the production are wonderful.  They include:  Laura Kaplan, Anna Rebek, Jonathan Hammond, Jerry Burke, Brendan Cavalier, Katherine Harroff, Sam Ginn, Melissa Coleman-Reed, James Cota, Rich Soublet, Steve Schmitz, and Soroya Rowley.

Your host for the evening will be the amazing and always entertaining Julio Jacobo- last seen in our production 'Ragnarok' as the Guuol the Orc!

Look at that face.  Do you want to miss that?  No.  You don't.

The night will also include a fabulous performance by the amazing Grace Towers- and local Drag Performing Artist who is the subject of Circle's next production- and the reason why we are hosting this event tonight.  Here is a little sneak-peak performance by Grace from when she wowed her audiences at Pride 2011!:

The entire night is sure to be full of fun and surprises and we just can't wait!

3.)  What will the Dessert and Wine part of the night entail?

Yeah, we know this is a big part of the draw for the evening, and it will be delightful.  After the production we will ask our guest to join us in the Dance Place green room where we will have everything set up.  Plenty of wine and many varieties of sweets to compliment the end of your evening.  All of this is of course included in your ticket price!

This is really the perfect night out!

All of the funds from the evening are helping our next production 'Deconstruction of a Drag Queen' become fully realized.  So the night will unleash artwork that will be used during the show, and a sneak-peek performance of one of the scripts scenes!

We have to go shopping now for nice outfits to wear tomorrow, so we're leaving you with the obvious blah-blah of:  Get those tickets for 'Love Roulette' now before it's too late, and help our Company grow stong!  We love you!

How Not to Be a Valentine.

We asked Circle Circle dot dot company members what their worst Valentine’s Day memory was, here are their answers:

Katie: When I was in high school I was in a choir that had to drive around town performing "Singing Telegrams" to people in their offices, at some fancy dinner, or at their homes- for the most part it was pretty fun.  We had to sing to the occasional solo guy that would ask us not to continue after our first song- but for the most part we delivered to very happy ladies.  One year, it was pouring rain on Valentines, so we had to run around town in the rain.  We managed to wrap up the entire day of singing unscathed until while we were backing out of the last restaurant's parking lot we got into a fender bender.  With the person we had just sang to.  Happy Valentine’s Day!  Can we exchange insurance information?

Soroya: I was in 5th grade and my BFF got like 5 chocolate rose Valentine’s Day Grams (one of them was from me) and I got none.  Why didn't she buy one for ME!

Sam: My 2 best girlfriends’ and I were all single one year on Valentine's Day.  We decided we were gonna have a fun girl's night out!  Who needs guys, right?  Right before we were about to head out to the bars, my friend's mom wanted to take a picture of us.  We posed by a fireplace, and she captured the moment.  On a DISPOSABLE CAMERA.  That picture now sits on their mantle in a frame.  We were all wearing flannel shirts and awkwardly linking arms.  No wonder none of us met any men that night.....

Evan:  Ever experienced misery in surround sound?  It was my 2nd year in San Diego, I was a full time student, working two jobs and my girlfriend at the time was studying abroad in Australia.  I remember that it was a long day at school where I failed my midterm and at work I was the only one in the valet office and no cars came in the entire night. I finally get off work at midnight and get home to my roommate and his recently moved in girlfriend, taking over the couch with nauseating valentine's decorations and gifts.  This made me a little jealous considering I hadn't heard from my girlfriend all day and irritated because all I wanted to do was relax and watch TV. I grabbed a snack from the kitchen and went to bed, but couldn't sleep, because all I could hear was the constant creaking of peoples beds. First it started with my roommate and his girlfriend, then my neighbors next door started making sex noises that sounded like animal mating calls from the amazon jungle, then the lesbians below me started at it. At one point I could hear 5 different couples going at it and with my paper thin walls, it sounded like I was at a porn convention. Finally I grabbed some toilet paper, stuffed it in my ears and went to sleep.

Brendan: One year I spent the entire day/night bar hopping with a bunch of Gay men in Hillcrest/ South Park.

Ashley: My worst valentine's day will probably be this year; I’ll be at work all day followed by 3 hours of Legal Issues class.  womp womp.

Patrick: My worst Valentine’s Day included stressing about what to get the girl I was dating for a month, then her breaking up with me prior to February 14th, but of course after having bought her some froofy bath kit thing that proved to be money flushed down the toilet.  She probably wouldn't have liked it anyway but it was loss of perfectly good cash that irked me and sent my excitedly single yet emotionally fragile self into the bar on my most hated of holidays.  I sat at the bar in my usual spot calling my guy friends to come join me in the hunt (everybody says Valentine’s Day is a great night to pick up chicks), but all were busy with their girlfriends.  After a few hours of lonely drinking and realizing that I was not yet ready to move on from the harpy who broke my heart. I just stared angrily at all the happy couples, so my friend the bartender thought shots seemed like the answer.  After the blackout I woke up at 6 am to the sounds of a chainsaw like snore in a strange bedroom trapped beneath the arm of a girl I didn’t recognize.  Despite my hangover I was able to find my way out of the apartment and take my first ever walk of shame only to find that my wallet was gone.  Praying that I hadn't lost it in the lair of the nameless girl, I went to the bar to see if my luck hadn't entirely run out.  I was greeted by my ever friendly bartender buddy, my wallet in his hand a smile on his face and before I could ask the obvious question of "what the hell happened", he simply laughed and said "you don't even want to know". I thanked him for the shots and headed home.

Melissa: My date invited me out for a super fancy, elegant Valentine's dinner and said they'd pick me up after work... So be ready. I changed into a cute dress & prettied up my face. My date showed up wearing high-water pants that looked two sizes too small, thick white athletic socks stuffed into black dress shoes... And was completely & totally hammered. So hammered that I had to ask, "did you drive here??Really?!" Needless to say... No fancy dinner. I ended up driving my date home and drank the bottle of wine & ate the chocolates I'd gotten for us alone.

Come hear many more tales of woe AND of love on February 11th for our fundraising event: LOVE ROULETTE!  We promise your night will be nothing like these memories!  Bring a date, or bring your pals.  Did we mention wine and dessert is included in your ticket price?  Limited seating is available, so get your ticket today!

The Heart of the Matter

Howdy friends,

In our second year as a working Theatre Company we are still learning, still growing, and still working our butts off to make this wheel go around.  It ain't easy San Diego- but we love it, so we're doing it anyway.

The other day we met with our new amazing Lawyer- John Barkley with Barkley Law Group to help get the ball rolling on the process of filing for our Non-Profit status- a very important factor in being a functioning Arts Organization- except if you're the Blue Man Group.  With a Non-Profit Status we can work our butts off to apply for Grants, recieve Tax-Deductable donations, and apply for many other resources that can help pave our way to making this Company stronger in this great city.

Because of John's expertise and support we are in great shape to have this happen waay earlier than we had originally planned and this means so much to us.

Until then, however- we must carry on.  Our next production "The Deconstruction of a Drag Queen" is being developed and will happen in April- no matter what our financial status is.  However, the state of the production is riding on our ability to raise significant funds.  High heels for a male size 13 foot are expensive!

It continues to be important to us that we improve.  Our company didn't have ANY money starting out- we raised it all and continue to do that work again and again.  We held our awesome kickstarter, we hosted an amazing Morp, we worked for Jean Isaac's 'Trolley Dances', we have held countless fundraisers at our favorite wine bar Jake's on 6th, and now we are hosting a unique Valentine's themed evening with "Love Roulette" on February 11th.  Our fundraisers are small as we try to make them accessible to ALL our audiences- not just the ones with giant pocket books- but for the folks we identify with and who seem to care about our work the most.  We make these events affordable, and we make them fun and funky.  We hope that at the end of the night they seem less like a fundraiser and more like an awesome time out- but they are indeed fundraisers, and we depend on them.

This time, we are counting on 'Love Roulette' probably more than any other fundraiser we've held.  Without the funds to create 'The Deconstruction of a Drag Queen', we simply don't think we'll be able to give the piece the sparkle, the spunk, and the absolute love and attention it deserves.  It's so important that we continue to improve your experience with CCdd's shows.  So bare with us as we advertise the pants off of all our upcoming events- and let us love you on February 11th and provide you with a memorable evening, and some wine and dessert- all for a little more than our normal ticket price.

Make sure you get this ticket ahead of time- as we have very limited seating for this one-night-only event.  With any luck we'll sell out- but we've got a long way to go to get to that magical place today.

Visit our main page- www.circle2dot2.com today to nab your seat.  And oh- hey?  Can't make it and still want to help?  Well- you're welcome to donate (The 'click here to donate' button is very inviting at the top).  But once again- we want to give you a good time, and we would LOVE to see your beatiful faces at all our events, so come on out!
