It has begun! Thursday night the cast of Red Planet Respite sat down to read the newest version of the script and today we continue our tablework. It's nice to walk into a room of friends and feel how pleased they are to be there. To hear how they trust you, to find how willing they are to take the journey with you, and to know how ready they are to do anything they must to make the show work.
We have been blessed over the years to work with many of San Diego's brightest young performers, but I think that this show will has a magical combination of talent that will make it a stand out in our companies' history. To have crowd favorites like Jacque Wilke ("The Break-Up/ Break-Down"), Kevane La'Marr Coleman ("Deconsturction of a Drag Queen") and Justin Lang (company member of NVA), and Jyl Kaneshiro ('DerbyWise' & 'San Diego, I Love You 3.0) jump in with both feet at the mention of the project started us off great. Pepper in company members and Soroya Rowely and myself, and finish it off with a new face to San Diego: the young/ talented Caitlin Ross who was part of the original workshop production of 'Red Planet Respite' at ASU last spring and we definitely have a great reciepe for success.
'Red Planet Respite' will prove to be our biggest project to date. Not only will it take place in the largest venue we've had the pleasure to use ( The beautiful Mendall Wies Forum at the La Jolla Playhouse), it will feature technical elements and a set we've only dreamt of over the last 4 years. We look forward to keeping you up to date on how the production is going and seeing you in the audience this September.
But, before we can give you the art you deserve we need a little bit more help to ensure financial stability and future growth. Please consider helping us by spreading the word about our "10k or bust" Fundraising campaign. We are currently very close to reaching our goal which would allow us to really wow you with our first production as the La Jolla Playhouse resident company and secure our ability to keep the rest of our 2014/15 season just as strong. We also have one more "bar-raiser" event left which we hope will be as successful and fun as the first two were. This one will take place tomorrow night at an amazing Belgian themed Bar & Cafe called Brabant in Southpark. Managed by Adam Parker who you may know as the artistic director of Triad Productions and Director of 'Big Block Letters' from "Street. Art. Prophets.". Brabant will be giving us 10% of food and drink sales from 7pm-10pm Monday night (the food is amazing) and we will be playing a rousing game of BINGO for some fantastic prizes. This event will also be your last chance to purchase tickets for our raffle. If you plan on attending please join our facebook event Here and invite your friends. We hope the place is overflowing with wonderful friends like you!
