Opening Night for “Street. Art. Prophets.” Is Thursday night!  We are teching, polishing, and making this show truly spectacular.  It has been quite a journey to get to this place and we are incredibly proud of this project.

As it is always the case- Opening Weekend is important to a show, especially to us, because it is the weekend to start spreading word-of-mouth on a production.  We could have all the publicity in the world, but for CCdd it has been our audiences that have brought new folks out for our shows, and we are so grateful to you.

To help motivate our faithful fans to show up the first weekend of our run, and to help us spread the word, we are hosting several fun special events to inspire our last-minute friends to get to us early.  We hope you’ll take advantage of it all!

Set Art!

Thursday November 29th: Opening Night!  In our opinion, this is night is a ton of fun.  For $25  you get to see the show, and can attend our post-show party for free!  Free drinks, and food, and elbow-rubbing with all of the artists involved in the production!  Ain’t no party like a Circle party!  We do predict that this night will sell out, so grab your tickets before it’s too late!

Friday November 30th: Writerz Blok night.  We believe in giving back to the communities we work with throughout our productions, and there is simply no better Non-Profit organization in town that does more for the Street Art culture than Writerz Blok.  If you make it to this evening’s show, 50% of your ticket price will be going directly to this wonderful organization!

Saturday December 1st: Social Media Promo night.  Show up to our box office with your smart phone and show us a shared tweet or facebook post that promotes Circle or our show and we’ll give you $5 off your ticket price.

Sunday December 2nd: Free Mimosa day and Chiropractique day.  At our 4pm we will be offering a free Mimosa to all ticket-holders on this day.  Also, as a sponsor for our show, we have agreed to give all Chiropractique clients $5 off their tickets on this day!

Monday December 3rd: Industry Night.  If you’re a fan of Circle but didn’t know if you could make it to the production, our Industry night is the first weekend!  We hope that all our amazing talented pals will show up and love!

That’s what we’ve got for you this weekend!  We hope to see you at the show, and we hope you let everyone you know that you’re supporting local original art by the craziest bunch of art-makers in town.

"Street. Art. Prophets." Playwright Feature #3: Melissa

The Lovely Melissa. Photo by Rich Soublet

Another Playwright for "Street. Art. Prophets." is the fabulous Company Member Melissa Coleman Reed who has contributed the piece 'Faim & Grunt' to the production!  You might remember Melissa in "The Break-Up/Break-Down" or as the sultry Duke D'Lux from "Deconstruction of a Drag Queen".  Melissa first shared her writing talents with CCdd at our "Love Roulette" production last year and she jumped at the chance to do it again for this show.

Here is what the lovely gal had to say in response to our behind-the-scene questions:

Q:  Who is the artist that your piece is based on, and what about their life as a Street Artist inspired your play?
A: My piece is based on two artists named, Stella and Waylon. I was inspired by the sense of adventure, the notion of travel & escape, the searching, the instantaneous creation, the going to places where most people will not go, the daring, the passion, the call to color, to live life on your own defined terms, the need to be seen, the desire to give joy through art, the constant element of discovery from inside yourself and from simply being outside in the world.
Q: Who do you hope sees this production?
A: I hope that this production draws an audience that are curious and looking for a little adventure. I hope that the street art/graffiti community comes out and perhaps sees a little of themselves reflected through this tapestry of artistic experience. I hope to see our loyal Circle Circle fans, and random people off the street. And like Delia, I too, hope my mom sees this.

Q: Is there anything you'd like the audience to know about your piece before the show?
A:  If we are lucky, we have the good fortune to stumble upon kindred souls who spark up our life, push us to action and make our lives an adventure. For me as an artist/woman/human I am always questing, poised for the next great who-knows-what. Stella gifted me an a experience that was heart-poundingly terrifying and fantastic. Waylon opened this gorgeous-gut-wrenching-mesmerizing window to his universe. I wondered what the world would be like if these two exquisite forces-of-nature journeyed to somewhere known and unknown.
Thank you Melissa for taking the time to give our audiences some insight on your piece!  Tickets are still available for the run, get yours today by clicking that lovely "Click To Buy Tickets" button on the upper left corner of the page!  We would love to see you there.

"Street. Art. Prophets." Playwright Feature #2 Delia

Delia Knight

The beautiful and talented Ms. Delia Knight teamed up with Circle once again to write the fabulous piece 'Glow' that is being directed by super awesome company member Shaun Tuazon and choreographed by the incredible Michael Mizerany.   We are thrilled to have this piece opening our production of 'Street. Art. Prophets.'   We had the chance to chat with Ms. Knight about all things inspiration, and here is what she had to say in response to our questions:

Q:  Who is the artist that your piece is based on, and what about their life as a Street Artist inspired your play?

A: The artist my piece is based on is Gloria Muriel.  Everything about her life as a street artist inspired me.  The thing that inspired me most is that she almost kind of stumbled into it.  I think that happens a lot in art.  You stumble into something you love.
Artwork by the incredible Gloria Muriel
Q:  Who do you hope sees this production?
A: I hope this production reaches a younger demographic.  I want people to know that theatre can be anything and everything.  It is a wonderous world of possibility and a great place to tell amazing stories.  That and my Mom.  I hope my Mom is able to see the production.

Q: Is there anything you'd like the audience to know about your piece before the show?
A: I want the audience to know that my piece is a love letter to the artist, in deep appreciation for her putting paint to a wall or a canvas to express her point of view.

We cannot wait to see the final product of this fully staged production and we hope you'll be there to join us!  Gloria has also agreed to bring artwork for us to show throughout the run, so you might just be able to take a piece of the story home with you!

Get your tickets HERE today, November 29th is filling up quickly!

"Street. Art. Prophets." Playwright Feature #1: Wind

We at Circle Circle dot dot are thrilled to have 4(!) different playwrights that developed 5 different 20-25 minute pieces for our November 29th- December 15th production.  The purpose behind bringing in so many collaborators was so that we could show several perspectives from the vast world of Street Art.

We had the opportunity to sit down and chat with one of the amazing playwrights from the show: Wind Dell Woods, and gather some behind-the-scene info on his piece entitled: "Big Block Letters".  Check out what he had to say:

Wind Woods

Q: Who is the artist that your piece is based on, and what about their life as a Street Artist inspired your play?

A: I interviewed Saratoga Sake. The main element of his life that stood out to me was the many years he has put into developing his artistic skills and how he might picture himself as an artist today compared to when he was young. I was interested in exploring the question of what happens to artists in a youth culture once they become adults?

Q:  Who do you hope sees this production?

Besides, everyone, I hope that people who are part of the graffiti art culture will see their stories dramatized in this play; I also hope that people who know little or nothing about the art, the history, and the culture will be inspired to learn more, and that they too will see elements of their own stories represented and honored on the stage.
Rehearsal for "Big Block Letters"
Q:  Is there anything you'd like the audience to know about your piece before the show?

As a Hip Hop generation artist, I was interested in exploring the way the music, style, and artwork of Hip Hop culture might inform my approach when writing this play. Because Graffiti art is one of the four elements of Hip Hop, I felt it was important to create a space where the other three elements (djing, Break dancing, and emceeing) could assist in building the world of the play, as well as enhance the way this story is presented to the audience.

Thanks for your time and your incredible work Wind!  We love your piece and can't wait to see it at the 10th Ave. Theater along with all of the other pieces that will be part of this great show.

Oh hey!  Tickets are available HERE!  We hope to see you there!

What the heck are those crazy Circle kids doing in rehearsal?

We are in week 3 of rehearsals for Street.Art.Prophets.!  (Tickets are available HERE).

So many fun and imaginative things are happening in the rehearsal studio at APA (our heros) we just had to share something.  Each short play that makes up the production is only 20-25minutes in length, so we are getting incredibly creative in telling each story.

This particular clip is from a dance rehearsal for the piece "An Opening" written and directed by Katherine Harroff, inspired by artist Michael Mahaffey.  All choreography is by the incredible Blythe Barton of San Diego Dance Theater and Blythe Barton Dance.

It might not make a lot of sense right now, but we promise it will.  Scratch your head, giggle, and enjoy this fuzzy piece of gold recorded by Stage Manager extraordinaire Crystal Brandon:
