Major!

I changed the header to look like the image that i'm toying with for our company logo.  There is an impending photoshop class where I'm going to learn all the tricks and will be able to design all our postcards for shows and whatnot. 

I'm obsessed.  I love working this way and playing with themes....This will continue to change and grow.  But I thought it would be fun to take you on the ride as well.  Some of the ideas I am playing with are connect-the-dots....a play with the name of our company.  This is a little throwback to childhood-as is the name. 



The header has numbers on the first "c" of each Circle.....I'm not sure I like it.  This pic also shows the "dots" in blue.

Everything is rolling along.  After New Years I will be scheduling a photoshoot with company members, and then another with Cast members so I can get all the design elements done before I get into hardcore rehearsals, and so we can start advertising all over SD! 

I am looking for one additional cast member.  A woman.  One who is open to our ideas and doesn't mind being a lesbo. 

It's tricky, because I am fearful of letting new artists in.  I know I shouldn't be, but I am.  I am being extremely picky with who comes into this project, because it has to be perfect! 

This is totally my Black Swan moment.  (Just kidding to those who saw it, i'm not that effed up).

What...is up!

Ok!  So the play is finished!  Minus some minor tweaking we are looking really beyond my expectations for where we should be by now.

We had our second read-through on Friday, and though is was late in the evening, the energy in the room was really something beyond special.  The additional actors that lent their voices to the reading just made my year with their ability to jump right in and love up on our work!  Thank you Jacque, Kyle, and Wendy.  And special thanks to Jacque and Kyle for committing to the production!  Thank you for liking the script enough to want to stick with us for the long-haul!  Wendy, I wish you were available...deep sigh.

For our physical scenes and couple o' dance numbers- we have an amazingly talented and innovative young choreographer who sat in on the reading to see if it might be her cup of tea to help out- and it is!   It is so reassuring to have so many talented people excited about this project.  The fact that no one has backed out is a GREAT sign! I also think the fact that nearly everyone stuck around after the reading for a couple of hours talking about the script, their parts, what they can do for the show, how excited they are....well, that is just a dream come true.  I could not feel like this is the start of something special more then I do now.

I can reveal some more information on here.

We have a workshop reading of the script scheduled at Diversionary theatre on April 17th, and after that we will go into full-rehearsal mode to prepare ourselves for a run of the piece the last two weekends of June, and the first two weekends of July at 10th Ave. Theatre Downtown.  We have a space!

All I need (as of now) is one more actress to fill one more role by January, and then we will be good to go!  I am scheduling a photo shoot with my enormously talented photographer pal Aaron Rumley, so I can design a website and some postcards for the company.

I am looking into some start-up grants to potentially get some money for the production, and I am also conceiving a fundraiser.

There is so much to do...but it is certainly the start of something huge ladies and gentlemen.  We gotta be starting something.

Still to come: Our mission statement and logo.  The Mission Statement is something I am still toying with.  What could get us grants?  How are we coming off?  Will people care?

And I am taking my time with the design of Circle Circle dot dot's logo.  It has  got to be amazing.

Ok, enough bragging.  My insides feel like they may fall out of my butt.

This Friday is our second read-through

This coming Friday is the second read-through of the almost completely finished play! We are very excited.

We also have a space for our production in the summer! We reserved the 10th Avenue Theatre for 4 weeks, and we will either have a 3 or 4 week run.

This is obviously beyond exciting. Other then this, I have little to share....but there will be lots more next week, so stay tuned!

Rolling Along

After the first reading I realized how important discrepancy is in this industry.  Especially with comedy.  So I wont be talking about the actual script on this blog....just process.

But I will tell you this about the script: It's effing awesome, and I'm so proud of it, and everyone involved.  Everyday I get new ideas and the company all share their ideas with me, and it just keeps me buzzing all day and all night.  I really don't know how I'm going to wait until Spring when we can mount this beast.

 

On Friday company member Crystal invited me to an "Adult Puppet Cabaret," and let me just say- this was electric to my senses, and opened up many doors of possibilities.  Crystal is a puppet guru.  She is just so crafty and brilliant.  I am proud to have her on our team.

 

There was lots of puppet sex happening that evening, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

 

I am also working on designing the logo for our company.  I will reveal it within the next week or so.

This blog is going to be pretty lame in these beginning stages, so I will tell a story about various break-ups I experienced to keep you interested, and to get you in the mood for our piece.

 

When I was in pre-school, I was playing on the jungle gym and the cutest boy in the class came up to me, breathless, and said:

"Hey!  You girl!  You are my Princess now,  and I'm your Prince, and there is a dragon coming after you!  And I'm gonna save you!"

 

I was so flattered.  I sat on top of the Jungle Gym and said, simply:

"Ok!"

And then he went and fought this other kid, who I think was the dragon, but the Kid kept roaring like a lion and it was all very confusing.  I was supportive in the activity, and very happy to be suddenly spoken for.  I called out:

"Save me my Prince!  Save me!"

My enthusiasm took my beau by surprise, and she turned to smile at me with love in his eyes, and in that moment the Lion-Dragon kid pounced on him and "ate his brains".

So my Prince died.  And yelled at me from the ground:

"You scared me and now and I'm dead- you can't play anymore!  I hate you!"

And I cried.

 

That's the end.  Pretty tragic, huh?

First read!

I am still completely thrilled by the reading we did last night in our living room.

I  locked myself in my room and popped out a script I really thought was something special, using the stories that our company shared, and embellishing the shit out of them.   Finally, we invited the group back together to read them last night.

It was strangely one of the best moments of my life, as simple as it was.  In that moment I learned how completely possible it is to make theatre happen with this amazing, committed, hilarious, and smart group of people.

The show right now has 10 people in it, which means we might need about 3 extra non-company actors to be a part, but we'll see how it develops.

The goal now is to have a full "workshop" performance of it in Spring, tweak it, and then do a run of it in the Summer.

 

I am so excited to bring other people into our insanity.

 

We had a delightful audience member last night, and he seemed to really enjoy the work we had so far.  So much laughter and profanity was echoing in our building.  Our neighbors probably thought we were throwing a beer-pong tournament.

 

Our next reading- which should really be the point when the play is near completion, will be on December 17th.  We will probably have a physical work-through before then in December.

 

We're really going to do this!  I don't think I've ever been more excited about the potential of a project!

 

Holy shit.  This rocks so hard.
